An exceptional and highly versatile opportunity. Ocean Star is a proven ocean-going sailing vessel with an established operational history, robust commercial
credentials and the potential to become something truly exceptional. Offered at a compelling price, she represents an outstanding opportunity for an owner seeking a
ready-to-go sail training vessel, a capable expedition platform, or the foundation for an ocean-capable luxury sailing yacht.
Built in 1990 by Howdy Bailey Marine Metals in Norfolk, Virginia, to a design by Murry G. Peterson, Ocean Star was commissioned by the owners of Ocean Navigator
Magazine and has been operated as a sail training vessel since 1999. Her long operational history is testament to the strength, reliability and seakeeping capabilities
of her design.
Constructed in steel and purpose-built for life offshore, Ocean Star is a substantial and proven passage-making schooner. Her masts, standing rigging and running
rigging were all renewed in 2018, providing a solid platform for continued commercial operation or future conversion.
Currently MCA Red Ensign-flagged in the British Virgin Islands, Ocean Star holds a current Small Commercial Vessel Certificate valid through June 2031, permitting
her to operate with 16 trainees (or 12 passengers) and four crew in Category 1 waters.
Her practical and robust layout is designed around extended offshore operation. She accommodates up to 20 people in individual berths and is equipped with the
electrical generation, water-making capability, freezer storage and galley facilities required to support a full crew on extended passages.
